New Goals

I've been in a slump, partially because of stress from an impending exam for college as well as more editing duties I've taken on at my second job at Brighthub.com. I can easily say I haven't written regularly like I should be, though I have managed a little bit here and there. Fast forward to this morning, and I read a post over at Apollo's Lyre which has spurred me to action. Not too long ago, I joined forces with Elana and a great many others who pledged to write every day for thirty days. We all made writing goals, and I actually did manage to keep to my own personal goals.

Since today is the 1st of the month, I'm going to start a new set of goals. I am going to set a goal of 750 words per day for the next 30 days. I will post my progress here, and hopefully it will be just as satisfying as the last time. I have a few things I am currently working on, so it's not like I have to start something new. I just have to continue on current projects. Thanks for the inspiration, Apollo.

To spur inspiration in others, do you have any current writing goals? Have you managed to stick to them fairly well?

Deadlines are always great for me. I've been wrapping up my novel and have just starting querying again, so that has taken up most of my attention. But, this week I decided that I want a full draft of my next novel by the end of the year. That's a totally reasonable goal, and I think it will reduce a lot of my stress--working on a new book will surely balance out the stress of trying to get the old one published. Good luck with your goals, Eric!

Good luck with your goals, Eric! I'm sure you'll do great. It really does help being accountable on a blog, knowing people are waiting to see if you reached them or not!

I have lots of goals currently, the main one for this month to write no less than 250 words on my WIP novel per day with Holly Lisle (she's offered herself up as a "pace rabbit" for those of us who need motivation). I'd really like to get a short story ready for submission by the end of July as well. We'll see how that goes.

I'll be watching your progress...happy writing!

Good luck with your progress, ya never know, maybe 750 will turn to 2000 once you get the creative juices flowing and you won't be able to pry your fingers from the keyboard.

Also, thanks for visiting my blog. It's nice to know that there are other people out there that are or will be in my position soon.

Keep on truckin'!

Eric, glad to see that you're working on a specific word count! :) It was my goal to do 1.6k for the entire summer, but once I got a bit in I decided I hated what I was doing with the book and after 12k words made the decision to start over. Haven't gotten to the actual restarting just yet.

Good luck with your goals! Stick to it! It's the best feeling, as you would know, to meet each and every one.
