The wife and I are planning a huge - and super secret - trip for the family coming up in June. I'll be spilling details on this later, but I wanted to relate a funny thought I had this morning. The area we're going to happens to be home to a fellow writer (same state at least), and I thought this morning how cool it would be if I could arrange to meet the writer in person. In fact, that realization excited me almost as much as the idea of the whole trip itself.
It's just really cool to think about meeting a fellow writer in person. And if you'd ask'd me about it say...5 years ago, I'd probably have been like "eh, I guess". Nowadays, I'm really psyched. I mean, I'm going to be meeting Beth Revis in a couple weeks when she swings through my area. How cool is that? If I could travel and meet you all, I'd have a perma-smile for years. Some of you however, are a little harder to get to than others (sorry Glynis LOL).
It's funny what direction life takes us and what joys we find along the way. It's also funny that I think in writer terms now. Don't get me wrong; it's really cool. But I can laugh at myself and how my thought processes have changed too. I notice that I tend to see writing mistakes (punctuation, grammar, run-on sentences) more these days as well. In fact, I just had to mention it to my boss for something he asked my opinion on. What others call nit-picky, I now call proper editing. Go figure.
I'll leave you all with some ACDC to kick off your Friday. Because after all, we writers definitely rock!

Oddly enough...my spelling, grammar etc. has gotten crazy horrible...my editors have made me lazy! Are you going to Maine? There is a writer there I have met :)
Breeze
How much fun is that! I wish it were me but, lately, nobody wants to take vactions to the most violent city in the US. For the life of me I can't understand why...;)
I am totally with you! I think experience makes you more aware of things around you. For me, when crit partners point things out, it goes into a different bucket and I'm suddenly hyper-aware!
And as for the trip, I'm totally with you! I love taking advantage of trips out of town to meet writerly peeps. I'm lucky to live in a place with TONS of fabulous writers, but it's always nice to meet the ones who don't live here. In fact, we've actually got a family trip planned to go visit another writer and her family. I also try to be aware of writers I know online who head out my way, try to get a meal or coffee together or something - it's always nice to "know" someone when you're in a place you're not totally familiar with.
I do much better at seeing errors in other people's writing, in my own, I find I tend not to notice though, still. Why do you think that is?
Breeze - Heh heh, sorry for your editing troubles. And no, it's not Maine.
Cole - Awww, believe it when I say if I were coming your way, you'd definitely know. And who knows, I may be lucky (and honored) enough to see you sometime.
Windy - You said it exactly. It's just funny that I didn't think that way before but I do now LOL.
Angela - I think we're all blind to our own errors. That's what makes editing and revisions so hard. But thankfully we have such awesome writers out here in the Interwebs that we can always find somebody with a fresh set of eyes.
That's cool you get to meet Beth! Yeah, I thought differently before I became an active blogger and real author.
And great AC/DC tune - best use of a canon in a song. Ever.
Dude! I totally get that. I am planning a serious road trip this summer to do book promotions...and OF COURSE, I am totally planning it around - yes, you guessed it - the writer's I want to meet ;)
Alex - Too true, dude. And you got that right about AC/DC. That song kicks *%&$!
Christine - Oh man, that is so cool Christine. Well if you get anywhere near Denver, make sure you let me know. ;)
So true!! I get on such a high when I can hang with another writer. Totally refuels me! Have a terrific trip!
ooooh, sounds like an exciting trip! We expect pics :)
